Our members are fully trained in firefighting and rescue skills to respond to emergencies.
INCIDENT 1/11/2023 at 1152 hrs. Castorland was dispatched to 9217 state route 812 Town of New Bremen for a Structure Fire. Croghan fire units were in route a Croghan Fire chief reporting a working fire and requested their second alarm which brought Castorland, Beaver falls, New Bremen to the scene. Castorland Units responded was Engine 2, Engine/Tanker 1, Tanker 2, Rescue and Utility. Engine 2 arrived and the crew immediately went to work with fire attack. Tankers arrived and staged to supply New Bremen’s Engine with water, Utility 1 assisted with traffic control at the four corners in Croghan, as firefighters arrived, they packed up and assisted with fire suppression. Once the fire was knocked down, overhaul began personnel continued to work extinguishing hot spots. Croghan Command released Castorland when completed, we retrieved our equipment and returned, once in the station the tools, airpacks and gear were cleaned and returned to service Castorland reported back in service at 1430 hrs.
INCIDENT 01/04/2023 at 2234 hrs. Castorland was dispatched to 7785 N. State Street Village of Lowville for a Propane leak. Lowville Fire Chief Requesting Mutual Aid for interior firefighters and gas meters from Castorland and Martinsburg. Lowville chief also sates they have a 500 gal. propane tank on it’s top leaking copious amounts of gas entering the hospital. Engine 2, Rescue and Utility responded while in route Lowville chief reports the propane tank has been turned off. Castorland units arrived at the Emergency entrance to Lewis County General to stage in parking lot. The firefighter’s packed up with air packs and carried exhaust fan up to the entrance of the ER awaiting instructions, once command gave them orders the firefighters then entered the hospital to set fans up to ventilate and monitor the air for levels of propane with the meters. Multiple agencies were called in for gas meters there are many rooms to check. After the fumes were removed Lowville chief released Castorland. Castorland reported back in service at 0115 hrs.
